Eating out Gluten Free & Vegan at Purezza in Brighton
Purezza is located on St James Street in Brighton, it is the UK’s first vegan pizzeria to open, they pride themselves on 100% cruelty free food. I went to go check it out last week, I have heard from a few friends how good it was, but with a ‘no table booking’ system it is tricky to get in, due to its popularity.
The restaurant itself, is not too big but I loved the decor, it felt really natural with all the wood, and I love nothing more than seeing a big pizza oven with a busy kitchen whilst eating. The staff were incredibly friendly and warming from the moment we walked in. I am a strong believer in good quality customer experience, and we were not going to be disappointed here.
The menu is vast, all plant based and clearly labelled with gluten free, gluten free options and nut free options. The menu ranges from starters and raw salads, to pizza, burger and pasta dishes, so many to choose from we really struggled.
We started with smoothies, which were absolutely delicious, the green one with kale was our favourite and I loved the wooden straws.
We had garlic bread to start, their bases are nice, they are thin and crispy, made from a mixture of flours including rice and potato starch. It was packed with garlic and rosemary which is one of my favourite combinations.
We found it really difficult to decide what to eat for our main course, so we ordered a pizza each. I went for the ‘Pesto Manifesto’ on gluten free base and my husband had the Vulcano on sourdough. They were absolutely delicious, we were especially impressed with the vegan cheese, sometimes it can go either way but this cheese was really good. I loved the homemade pesto on mine with the freshly baked tomatoes. I would highly recommend this pizza. I couldn’t try my husbands but he loved the soft, doughy base and as a spicy food lover, he said it was the spiciest pizza he had ever had, so was very happy.
So up next, my favourite, dessert time! I spotted a view options when ordering our mains and my eyes lit up when I saw ‘GF’ next to nearly every single one! This is extremely rare!
I struggled to choose between the Tiramisu and the Chocolate Calzone, but after having so much gluten free pizza I thought i would go for the tiramisu. I absolutely LOVED it, and it came recommend by one of the staff, I made a wise choice. The creamy cashew topping with a base of crunchy blended almonds and dates, it was absolute heaven. The brownie was not gluten free but my husband loved it, he did say he would have loved it as a warm option though, maybe something for the Purezza guys to think about!
We truly had a wonderful meal and were totally spoilt and looked after by the staff. If you are vegan, veggie or gluten free I recommend a trip here, just make sure you get there in good time, the tables are hard to get!
