Eating out at McK Grill, Essex
This weekend, we went up to Essex to dine out at McK Grill. I am a huge fan of Megan McKenna, so given the opportunity to go eat at her and her dad’s restaurant was a real treat. Megan is also a Coeliac, and knowing the menu was 90% gluten free made me so so excited.
The vibe of this restaurant is amazing, it reminds me of some of my favourite spots in Mayfair. The decor is really luxurious and has a real lounge club vibe. The staff are all very friendly and they also have a DJ who plays on a Saturday night. The music he plays is amazing, house mixed with RnB and some proper old school songs too, perfect combination and just makes dinner really fun!
We were so lucky to actually meet Megan, being a fan if who she is and what she stands for, this totally made my night!
So enough fan chat, now onto the food. So with Megan being a Coeliac and knowing the menu was 90% gluten free I was so excited. We chatted a lot to her dad, Dave, he told us how much time and effort has gone into the food and designing the right menu, and this really shows.
It was really hard to choose from the menu, there was so much on their I could have eaten. I decided to start with grilled Calamari, it isn’t often that you are able to get this dish gluten free and if it is good, it is the best. I was so impressed, Calamari can be really hard to cook, it was absolutely perfect, soft and tender with a lovely crunch on the outside. Accompanied with a lovely lemon and pepper sauce, fresh chilli and spring onion.
For main course, I choose the whole lobster, which was the delicious, but for me the show stopper was the short rib Mac n Cheese, It is not often you get this dish gluten free and it was to DIE for! I loved every minute of eating this.
For dessert, it had to be Sticky Toffee Pudding, I love this and never get to eat it out. It was my favourite as a child growing up, as my auntie used to make it for me all the time. It was really rich, the sauce was so yummy and the salted caramel ice cream, was a perfect balance with it. I would highly recommend this but then there is so many amazing options on the menu, you will struggle to choose.
An absolute fabulous evening, amazing food, amazing tunes and highlighted by meeting Megan and her dad and hearing about the passion that has gone into this restaurant. I am so looking forward to going back, if only they could open one in Brighton too!
